It is a global gathering of youth rooted in Ignatian spirituality that is organized by the Central American Province of the Society of Jesus. This encounter brings together youth from five continents and offers an itinerary of spiritual, cultural, and pastoral activities that will provide participants with an encounter with Jesus and the opportunity to join Him in drawing closer to the Central American reality, before participating in the events of World Youth Day (WYD) Panama 2019.
It will take place from January 11-21, 2019, and then the participating youth will join in the events of WYD.
Mag+s 2019 will take place in the six countries that comprise the Jesuit Province of Central America: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.
Youth from the different works of the Society of Jesus who are between 18 and 30 years old.
The slogan is “Your Word transforms” which calls us to a deepened understanding of the power of God’s word and its ability to transform us and to invite others to join us in transforming our reality.
Each host country has organized a program of Ignatian experiences for pilgrims, which are organized into the following five categories:
Beginning in September 2018, a weekly prayer and other materials will be sent to participants, which will provide tools for the pilgrims that can help them prepare themselves to live the Mag+s experience to the fullest.
We recommend that you pack toiletries and personal care products, a sleeping bag, and clothing that is appropriate for the climate in your destination country (many locations, including Panama City, will be very warm, but some destinations will be at high elevation and much cooler). If you want, you can also bring items that are representative of your home country.
Spanish and English are the two official languages.
Each day will be guided by a theme. Based on this theme, pilgrims will partake in the following activities:
